The following guide covers the usual Uber vehicle requisites at present and provides example vehicles, so that you can have an idea of the type of car that meets their standards. Individual Uber market can have somewhat different requirements that can change at any time, and Uber eventually has the right to declare whether or not you are qualified to drive.

General requirements for Uber vehicles:

These are the requirements shared by all of Uber services:

​

o    Must be a newer model (2006) or not more than 10 years old. However, the following DO NOT qualify for any of Uber services: Full-sized vans, taxis and other 
marked vehicles, salvaged vehicles or those with salvaged title

o    Must have four doors whether car, minivan, or truck. Manual or standard transmission is acceptable.

o    Must have passed the necessary vehicle inspection.

o    Full name of the driver must be indicated on the vehicle's insurance.

o    Driver's name need NOT be in vehicle registration.

o    Driver needs to pass some background check.

Driver Requirements:

These are the Uber driver requirements for the non-commercial services or those that permit drivers to use their own vehicles for providing rides even if they do not have a commercial license and/or commercial insurance. These services include the the X, XL, and Select. 

o    You must not be younger than 21 years old
o    Has access to some 4-door vehicle of  2006 model or newer in majority of  cities
o    2001 or newer 2001 - Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco
o    Newer or 2011 - New York
o    Newer or 2001 -  Chicago
o    In-state automobile insurance indicating your name on its policy
o    In-state driver license
o    Licensed to drive in the United States for one year on the minimum, or three years if you are   
        below 23 years of age.
o    Must possess a social security number
o    In-state plates having updated registration (commercial plates are likewise okay)
o    Able to pass both background and driving record checks
